Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A circulating conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.
Their legal filing states that Owens disregarded all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
